4 Habits to Find Happiness through Good Mental Health

When it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle, chances are you’ve heard everything under the sun about working out and a good diet. Much like eating healthy and working out, maintaining good mental health is also a discipline that requires effort and commitment.   1. Rest – The easiest way to breakdown from fatigue is through overexertion. No matter what type of work you do, make sure to get good sleep and set some time apart to relax. This allows the mind to refresh.
  2. Meditate – Whether it’s through prayer, or silent reflection, set time apart frequently to stop and think about life. Allow your mind to exist without calculating, analyzing or internalizing new information. This makes it easier to think positive.
  3. Cheer for Yourself- For every negative thing you think about yourself, say three positive affirmations to cancel out the effects of self-deprecation. If you criticize yourself all the time, you will reinforce a negative self-image that becomes exaggerated over time.
  4. Do Something You Enjoy – People spend so much time living up to others’ expectations that we often forget what it feels like to be authentic. Take time to practice a favorite hobby, or indulge in a favorite pastime. This will help you appreciate the merits of your own tastes and opinions.

Being in a state of good mental health means being at peace with oneself and the world around you. It means finding a sense of balance that allows you to exercise good judgment, and cope with the uncertainty of life.
